Welcome to our new Farpoint blog! One of the things we will be able to do with our new blog is to answer some of the questions that come up on a regular basis regarding the convention. One of the biggest is always autographs – so, here goes.
“Why can we get some guests’ signatures for free, but others at a price?”
This situation always depends upon the convention’s contracted appearance agreement with the individual guest. Some guests are paid a flat fee that compensates them for their appearance, including participating in the official convention autograph session. Other guests are compensated as “paper guests”, meaning they are not paid an appearance fee by the convention, but are compensated through their sales of signed memorabilia throughout the weekend.
The situation as to which guests are signing in what capacity changes every year, and we as a convention do our best to let the membership know in advance which guests are signing at no charge and which guests are charging. For 2008, James Callis, Mira Furlan, and Harve Bennett are all participating in the official autograph session and will be signing 1 item per badged convention member per session at no charge. There will be 2 autograph sessions – one on Saturday and one one Sunday – times TBA.
Mira has the option to decide to sign additional items during the session, at a charge she determines. We will keep you posted as any news develops on this decision.
James has agreed to sign a limited number of additional items. These additional signatures must be purchased in advance at a cost of $20 each, maximum of 2 additional signatures per person. If you are already registered for Farpoint and wish to add on an additional James signature, please e-mail us at FarpointEnt@comcast.net to update your registration. Our new flier coming out with the next week or so will have the additional signature purchase as an option on the registration form.
As always, thanks for supporting Farpoint! We’re looking forward to seeing you in February.
