My first Farpoint was in October 1995 and that was after attending OktoberTrek, its predecessor. It’s been non-stop since. Hunt Valley Marriott has indeed become my second home and my fellow fans are an extended family. More often than not, between conventions I think about them and how nice it would be to see them more often even though we’re scattered about the East Coast.
Farpoint: Always a great time, a cozy, warm show. Let’s hope it keeps on trekkin’ for years to come.
I don’t remember which was my first Farpoint, but it was early. I’d been to Clippercon, Oktobertrek, and Shoreleave, and I couldn’t bear to stop. I know one year they hid the keys and wouldn’t let me go, because my daughter was 5 days old and we were expecting a blizzard. I missed the Snowcon because no one would drive down with me, and I still kick myself for not being bolder. Now, I won’t miss it if I have to strap on snowshoes and hike the 300 miles. The guests are just the frosting. Farpoint is about the fans coming together, one big (exhausting) party with 600 or more of your friends. It’s NEVER a bad time (once you get used to the HV carpeting). Now my kids won’t take no for an answer, either. If you run it, we will come.
Susan, Bib and Phil,
It’s people like you that keep Farpoint the convention it is! Thanks for the kind words.
Are the Dealers Rooms going to be open to the public (without paying the cover-charge)?
They have been in the past at the Hunt Valley Marriott, just curious is that’s going to be the same…
Thanks!
Jay
This is my first Farpoint and I’m thrilled to be a guest author at the 20th anniversary of this cool convention. Many thanks to all the wonderful organizers, and especially Phil Giunta. I hope you all show me the ropes!
